Report on the situation of human rights in Argentina (1980) -
IACHR |
In September of 1979, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) visited Argentina. It was, actually, a mission to observe in answer to the received denounces. During the time the mission lasted, the Commission interviewed many personalities, public authorities, and members of civil society and human Rights organizations.
On the other hand, the Commission invited, through the press, to all those who considered that some of the rights established in the American Statement had been violated to present the corresponding charge. During a week 5580 accusations were received in several cities of the country.
The corresponding report was approved in 1980, in it the serious violations to human rights were reflected clearly. That is why the military government only allowed the publication of its conclusions. Nevertheless, the Centre for Social and Legal Studies (CELS) managed to distribute clandestinely 500 copies of the complete report that includes the names of the interviewed and other precisions. The complete report is only available in
Spanish. |
